"Why do you kids live like there's a war on!?" Petty strifes between well-meaning local and immigrant young men in mid-20th-century New York turns gangrenous. A really well done cinematic work: brilliant use of colors, a really effective opening sequence that accomplishes much in the way of world-building and lets the audience know the rules of the game, unhurried story-telling, ... a work of art. Despite faltering somewhat in the final act, the film pulls off a decent closure. A superb musical well worth the watch. [9 January 2025]
